L&#8217;anemia di Cooley \u00e8 caratterizzata da una forte carenza di emoglobina nel sangue, il quale non pu\u00f2 cos\u00ec trasportare la giusta quantit\u00e0 di ossigeno ai tessuti. Partendo dalla complessa struttura dei vari tipi di emoglobina, nel film si giunge a mostrare come il difetto ereditario provochi la riduzione della sintesi dell&#8217;emoglobina. Sulla base di queste informazioni, il filmato illustra successivamente le possibili conseguenze derivanti dalla trasmissione dai genitori ai figli del difetto microcitemia e risulta cos\u00ec chiaro qual&#8217;\u00e8 il rischio non trascurabile che due genitori microcitemici corrono di generare un figlio malato di anemia di Cooley. Il filmato mostra ancora come la diagnosi pre-natale consenta l&#8217;identificazione e l&#8217;aborto selettivo del feto talassemico. Il film si conclude con la considerazione che ogni intervento di prevenzione \u00e8 legato al riconoscimento dello stato di portatore sano, ci\u00f2 che pu\u00f2 essere fatto con un semplice esame del sangue.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Notes:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">16mm., colour, optical sound, duration 30&#8242;, Italian, French, and English versions (1981)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The aim of the film is to talk about microcythemia, a hereditary feature of the blood which, if transmitted by both parents, gives rise to a serious form of anemia in the children, called thalassemia, or Mediterranean anemia, or Cooley&#8217;s disease. Cooley&#8217;s anemia is characterized by a serious shortage of hemoglobin in the blood, which becomes incapable of carrying the correct amount of oxygen to the tissues. After dealing with the complex structure of the various types of hemoglobin, the film shows how the hereditary defect causes a reduction of the synthesis of hemoglobin. On the basis of this information, the film then illustrates the possible consequences deriving from the transmission of the microcythemic defect from parents to children and clear demonstration is given of the hardly negligible risk that microcythemic parents run of generating a child affected with Cooley&#8217;s anemia. The film then shows how pre-natal diagnosis allows identification and selective abortion of the thalassemic foetus.The film ends by considering that any preventive intervention made is dependent upon one&#8217;s being recognised as a healthy carrier, and this can be effected by a simple blood test.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\"
